Design Goals

The 2023 San Antonio DreamWeek, a month long summit to engage the community “through human interaction. In a city defined by its diverse cultural heritage,” celebrated the theme of Identity and Representation.

To encompass this idea in a visual medium, I was asked to create an image which evoked the idea of individuality as it intersected with community; how our uniqueness as individuals upholds our communities to make them stronger as a whole.

Iterations

The direction we initially decided to forge forward in was that of fingerprints, though the symbol of puzzle pieces was intriguing as well. The abstract nature of the direction we lead off into with the symbol of the finger print bode well as the iterations continued, as the idea of connecting all the forms in a way in which they seem connected, as part of a larger picture, like puzzle pieces was eventually satisfied.

The final illustration, picture at the top of the page, was utilized throughout the DreamWeek Summit for the duration of January 2023, which hosted both live and virtual events highlighting Black and Brown community leaders, their lessons, and their talents, throughout San Antonio.
